1920's • The first fire house taken in the 1920’s.

1920's • The automobile changed the look and feel of the park. At first, though, even if you had a car, there were few stores or restaurants in the area. Families would come to the park and stay put.

1920's • A highlight of the day may have been mail call - about 10 am.

• People would gather near the caretaker's house and visit. Resident would take their mail as their names were called.

1922 • Boutelle's Bakery, opens in downtown Delavan

1920's • Few houses had phones, but the caretaker would take phone messages and deliver them - any time of the day or night.

1923 • Lake Lawn Hotel was purchased by Commonwealth Edison Company, for use as a vacation retreat for its employees.

• Fred and Blanche Cevene circus acrobats, built this cottage around 1920 at 1400 Indian Trail (See map) in Assembly Park.

1920's • 4th of July, years ago, homeowners would chip in to buy some fireworks which would be set off at the end of the beach piers. People brought their lawn chairs and blankets to the park to watch the entertainment.

• Also, that was the one weekend of the year that "sleeping out" in the big park was permitted - and many people did it.

1929 • The Delavan Theater opened.
