Fr. Fred Zagone, (the Zagone family was a member of the Park for 60+years), and Father used to say a Mass in the Park on Memorial Day.
Dated: May 22, 2025
...The Park is a place where I created many of my life lifelong memories in the 60-plus years my family owned homes there. Starting from my earliest memories to well into adulthood, from playing in the parks to celebrating Masses in the Gazebo, Assembly Park will always be home. I would love to join the friends and old neighbors in the Park to celebrate Mass at some point. Alas, I’m afraid those days are behind me.
You may have heard I was diagnosed last summer with Stage-4 metastasized lung cancer. I guess Gail Reece should have been more adamant about our not smoking! Since early November I have been living at our Jesuit health care facility, St. Camilus, in Wauwatosa. I continue to keep up with my work at Marquette University and try to get to campus once or twice a week, depending on how I am doing and a myriad of medical appointments. I’m not in much pain but the amount of medication I’m on has prevented me from driving since Christmas time. I’ve been out to Delavan for dinner with friends on a couple of occasions but the logistics of getting to and from the lake have sometimes been challenging.
Please feel free to share this message with others in the Park. I try and am sometimes successful in replying to email messages. Messages may be sent to me at: Fred.Zagone@Marquette.edu
I have come to realize that prayer often comes from reflecting on our past. All of you certainly remain in my thoughts and prayers.
God bless you.
