• The first fire house taken in the 1920’s.

• The automobile changed the look and feel of the park. At first, though, even if you had a car, there were few stores or restaurants in the area. Families would come to the park and stay put.

• A highlight of the day may have been mail call - about 10 am.

• People would gather near the caretaker's house and visit. Resident would take their mail as their names were called.

• Boutelle's Bakery, opens in downtown Delavan

• Few houses had phones, but the caretaker would take phone messages and deliver them - any time of the day or night.

• Prohibition in the United States begins.

• Adolf Hitler becomes Führer of the Nazi Party as hyperinflation in the Weimar Republic begins.

• British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) established.

• The Walt Disney Company is founded.

May 10th
• The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation founded under J. Edgar Hoover.

• First televisual image introduced by John Logie Baird.

• National Broadcasting Company (NBC) founded in New York City.

May 20 – 21st
• Charles Lindbergh performs the first nonstop flight from New York City to Paris; becomes a world hero.

September 3rd
• Accidental rediscovery of penicillin by Alexander Fleming.

October 24 – 29th
• Wall Street crash of 1929 and the beginning of the Great Depression.

• Lake Lawn Hotel was purchased by Commonwealth Edison Company, for use as a vacation retreat for its employees.

• Fred and Blanche Cevene circus acrobats, built this cottage around 1920 at 1400 Indian Trail (See map) in Assembly Park.

• 4th of July, years ago, homeowners would chip in to buy some fireworks which would be set off at the end of the beach piers. People brought their lawn chairs and blankets to the park to watch the entertainment.

• Also, that was the one weekend of the year that "sleeping out" in the big park was permitted - and many people did it.

• The Delavan Theater opened.
